Iris Apfel is a New York style icon, and an inspiring figure! I just love that she can put together an outrageous outfit, and pull it off! I discovered Iris on Netflix and have become a big fan! She has inspired many Facebook followers, and Pinterest feeds, simply because of her eccentric personality. I think a small part of us wishes we could be so brave!
I’ve been wanting to explore a more expressive style painting and thought Iris would make the perfect subject! This painting style is meant to be quick, with confident brush work. Unlike my usual painting method, this style should take under 4 hours from start to finish. You’re not meant to go back to it to fuss over details. Big brushes, a limited colour palette, and fast, decisive marks is all that’s needed. This doesn’t come naturally, but I was pleasantly surprised at the outcome. I look forward to developing my skills in this style.
